“Bubuk” - The Australian boobook (bubuk) is a species of owl native to mainland Australia. Its name is derived from its two-toned boo-book call.

The owl represents for me wisdom, strength, truth and reaching your higher self. It is said the owl protects so one doesn’t get lost in their journey…

Rachel Cavanagh - Jewellery Design and Creation

Needing to be creative has always been a part of who I am. The process of handmaking jewellery lets me explore an endless field of creativity along with the fascinating challenge of mastering fabrication techniques to bring a design to life. Every piece brings something new to learn and sparks another idea.

My jewellery begins by selecting a focal point of beauty, whether it be an eye catching gemstone, an earthy rough cut rock, a handcrafted bead, a ceramic charm or an organic shape. Each design is created by hand and whether I am forging metal, setting a stone, riveting pieces or pouring resin, the excitement of creating something unique is always there. The pleasure of seeing what my jewellery will mean to it’s eventual owner is the real gift. All my pieces are made using precious metals and many feature either authentic gemstones, semi precious stone beads or quality ceramic pieces. Both the materials and processes I use are intended to support ethical and sustainable practices.

I am based in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW and my journey began with the fortunate meeting and exceptional tuition of an amazing local designer and jeweller along with the inspiration of a Canadian who awakened me to what it really means to feel alive…I owe them a heartfelt thank you.

Welcome to Bubuk, I am excited to share the journey.

Enjoy!

Rachel.
